For the longest time I had this empty wall in the living room:
It was just screaming for some sort of art. But I had two problems. First, I couldn't find anything we liked. Second, I couldn't find anything we liked and could afford. Or was it the first?...Anyway, it's been like this for a while until I saw inspiration by Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick . It seemed pretty simple and yet really cute! Just then Michaels was running a sale on canvas and acrylic paints. So I stocked up :) It took me another couple of weeks before I decided to even dare try something like that.
But last weekend I needed to take my mind off of things, so a little project seemed like a perfect idea. I got my supplies ready:
I also watched a few tutorials on Youtube. To make a long story short, here's the result. Keep in mind, it was my first (and last? ) time to work with a canvas or try to draw/paint anything at all. Don't judge too harsh :) I call it "Bear Lake Inspired":
I like it! I had a lot of fun with it!! It might not be very professional but I like how it looks in our living room. And it was only about $17. My kind of art :) One more shot of the finished product:
Now I just wish we had money to replace this ugly carpet...Oh well, small steps, small steps...

Thanks Amanda!
DeleteI'm impressed and it's special because it reminds you of a spot with lots of good memories. I think that you will try more.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...we'll see about that :)
DeleteI LOVE the color!!!! :) Nice Job!
ReplyDeleteLena, I think you have missed your calling...it is beautiful. Carpet...oh I know what you mean, I have some ugly "pink" carpet still going down our stairs along with yechy stuff in our bedroom. Time and money goes a long way when you have both...lol, something I always seem short of.
ReplyDeleteI know! It's hard to say from the picture but this carpet is actually purple!! when we got this house, they put the new carpets everywhere but the living room. And we were planning to get it fixed within the first year but it just never happened :( I'm thinking of starting saving for it as soon as we replenish our EF.
DeleteBeautiful, Lena!! You are soo talented! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Carla!
DeleteI think it looks great!
ReplyDeleteFor a first shot at painting a canvas, you did a phenomenal job. If I may throw in some suggestions, I cant help but to think a frame would do it a world of good, or perhaps something to contrast it/make it pop against the wall.
ReplyDeleteI thought about it but a frame this size will be pretty expensive so it will have to wait, unfortunately :(
DeletePretty. I like the blue colors against the color of your wall. I just painted our living room for the first time since we moved in. It's a nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. What color?
DeleteIt's lovely and sooooo peaceful to look at!
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel!
