I'm back. And we are OK. The things have been a bit crazy here, and I honestly didn't feel like blogging. Instead I cleaned, shopped for a bit, cleaned some more, cooked, babysat and read some books. I had a dear friend of mine from Russia staying with us for a day. I haven't seen her for 6 years, so it was nice to catch up.
Other than that there was nothing very exciting or worthy of blogging about this week. I realized that I never posted my food waste this week. So here it is:
We threw away two wilted carrots. I wanted to save the bigger one but it was just too mushy inside. We also had about a handful of red grapes. Does anyone have a good idea of what to do with older grapes? I cut around everything I could but it seems like grapes get bad so quickly. Total waste: about 70c.
I'm sorry for such a short post. I'll try to be back tonight with an update on my yearly goals.
Total spent this month: $230.31
Total saved: $438.96 (plus I will get ab. $30 in rebates)
Left to spend this month: $19.69
YTD spending: $723.92
YTD savings: $507.93
YTD coupons used : 105
YTD waste: $28.77
Love that you spent some time catching up with a friend and reading (the cleaning, well, not so much.....) Hope it was fun and enriching! What are you reading?
ReplyDeleteI just finished Mockingjay from Hunger Games sequel.
DeleteIf you are not going to eat all the grapes right away or can't, put them in a freezer bag and freeze them. You can eat them frozen or you can put them in smoothies. Hope that helps. :D
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that we always think that we will finish them and then we have like a handful left...And the kiddos don't like frozen grapes :(
Deletei know a lot of people like to freeze grapes, and eat them frozen as a treat. with summer coming along it might not be a bad idea. i personally don't like the texture when they are frozen, but i know others that love 'em
ReplyDeleteI'm OK with frozen grapes but kids don't like them.
DeleteWe love frozen grapes here. How nice that you had a friend visiting from Russia.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great viist!! Her name is Lena too, and we just talked for hours and hours...So much fun!
DeleteGood to see you back Lena :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura!
DeleteHow nice your friend was able to visit you !!!
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest freezing the grapes too but they beat me to it LOL! I LOVE frozen grapes, seems like a real treat! And of course they last much longer!
ReplyDeleteThey definitely do. I might just start freezing a couple of handfuls every time we buy them just for me.
DeleteAw, no worries! You need to prioritize certain things, especially friends you haven't seen for 6 years! I know how things can be when you have little ones, too... enough said! :)
ReplyDeleteAmen to that.
Deleteyou could freeze the grapes and use like an ice cube in a glass of wine. and my wilted carrots don't seem to bad in soup or pot pie!!!!
ReplyDeletethank you for your thoughts today. i am grateful for your blogging friendship. I appreciate you!
have a great time with your friend!!!
Oh, thank you! You are such an inspiration to me! I really enjoy your blog.
DeleteOh, and I usually use wilted carrots in soups but these were just too mushy. They were on the bottom of my produce drawer, and I don't know how I missed them before but it looks like they were there for a while :(
Enjoy your time with your friend!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby!
