The Easter bunny is a little sad this year. He is kind of broke. Honestly, for the first 3 years of our son's life he didn't even make it to our house. By the older Kid gets, the higher expectations he has for the poor Bunny. The Bunny doesn't travel too far. He's never been to Russia before. I guess, he taught the people there how to color their own eggs and bake some yummy bread for Easter. But here everyone loves the Bunny. He's funny, and yummy, and generous. For the longest time, Bunny used to just bring colorful eggs but now he slowly turns into Spring Santa. The Bunny doesn't want to disappoint his friends but he feels a little tired from all the expectations. The Bunny wants to teach children the true meaning of Easter but every day he hears more and more about what he should bring.
What should Bunny do? What does/did/will Bunny bring in your house?
When I was little, we never really got anything for Easter, it was more about church. Nothing wrong with not getting gifts!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get anything either! We will go to Church and we will teach kids about the true meaning of Easter on Sunday but I'm surprised at what parents give to kids, and all those huge baskets in Walmart...Now that the Kid is older, he talks with his friends about what they got last year, and what they hope to get this year. I don't want him to feel like we (or Bunny) don't care but I don't want Easter to turn into Christmas either( This statement itself sounds wrong!! I want them to know what Christmas is all about too-not about Santa)
DeleteThe bunny will bring some candy that I scored at CVS for super cheap and some eggs that we are coloring tomorrow in the same baskets from last year, without that weird plastic grass stuff that gets stuck everywhere.... :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know about your kids, but mine seem pleased with just about anything as long as it comes in a container of some kind (ie basket, stocking, box). I think they like the opening more than the actual gift. Do your thing, whatever it is, and I am sure they will be happy!
Easter Sunday was Church, a new outfit to wear there, and maybe a new skipping rope?
ReplyDeleteThe bunny just brings one small gift that he found on sale (about a $1-2 per kid) and some candy (Reeses). But this year I think the bunny is on a diet, so he is bringing less candy. Nothing wrong with a very simple Easter.
ReplyDeleteOur bunny is on a diet too :) We were thinking apples :)
DeleteEaster for me when I was younger mostly meant a day to go kite flying. Easter is basically kite flying season in Barbados. The bunny was never a big deal but we would get one or two small chocolate eggs, nothing extra special. I don't fly kites anymore but my mom still buys a chocolate egg for each of us.
ReplyDeleteFlying kites sounds fun!! It gives me some ideas...
DeleteI think Easter gets way overdone. I don't think there's anything wrong with simplifying.
ReplyDeleteI know...
DeleteAww.. well i'll be focusing on the true meaning of Easter with my kids! Easter is a celebration, but not of candy & all things chocolate! Mine will be receiving a Veggie Tales easter DVD, a storybook about the reason for Easter and a few little treats.
ReplyDeleteFunny, we got kids a Jonah Veggie Tales DVD for $3.99 at Target:)
DeleteI so agree, Easter has turned into a mini Christmas for sure. We keep it simple, a small basket with a giftcard for each of the big kids and a very small something for the grands (under $3.00) I hide the baskets around the yard so even the big kids have to do a little hunting to find theirs. Our DD's are doing fun simple baskets as well, sidewalk chalk, bubbles and such. Just small things that need to be replaced each spring anyway
ReplyDeleteHow fun!!
DeleteOkay, I come from a family that over does everything. I always do Easter baskets. I used to put a gift in their baskets. But this year I am really cutting back. I will do smaller baskets. We have always stressed the reason for Easter. The resurrection of the Savior. The atonement. But you are right I am constantly shocked by the Wal-Mart display.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I want Easter to be about-centered on Christ!
Deletewe keep it simple... you are truly right - it is horrible now - Christmas is another story - way too over rated for gifts, not what it is about at all :(
ReplyDeleteEaster is my very favorite holiday!! I started giving goodies in Easter baskets when the kids were little. I've cut down a bit, but they usually get their chocolate treats, marshmellow peeps, and a couple of small gifts. I spend about $30 on each basket, so less than $100.00. It's simple, but I can definitely see how it can get out of hand.
