Food waste Monday (oh Tuesday yet again:) and a menu, week 7/3-7/8

Pin It    I am still learning the ropes on how to have a giveaway so I spent quite a bit of time yesterday playing with it. Which means I didn't have time to clean a fridge. I did quickly check what I have, and nothing seems to be going bad so I have zero food waste for this week!! To be honest, by the end of the month our fridge is usually so bare that it doesn't surprise me.

So I went shopping a little bit yesterday. I just stopped by Walmart to price-match some prices on produce and get hot dogs for 4th of July. While I was there, I witnessed a scene that really touched me. As I was walking towards the registers, I saw a family of Mom and Dad and a daughter who looked like she was about 12 years old and suffered from Dawn Syndrome. As they were walking, a younger lady in a wheelchair got on their way. So parents just kept going cutting the handicapped lady off but their daughter stopped right there and let her through. It just melted my heart! There is a perception in the world that people with Dawn Syndrome are...well, not as smart as the rest of us. And I think what happened in Walmart just proved it wrong. They are just as loving and caring, and even though they might not have all the same abilities, they go through the same emotions we do!! And sometimes even stronger.

OK, back to out menu now that we have food. I want to try too cook as less as possible and enjoy more time with the family instead. We did have some leftover pizza from Friday( finished it yesterday) and we have a rotisserie chicken that will definitely be part of our menu on a few occasions. So that's what we are eating this week:

Mon.-leftovers
Tues.-chicken, mashed potatoes, salad
Wed.-hot dogs, potato chips, corn on the cob, fruit  and ice-cream for dessert
Thurs.- chicken ceaser salad
Fr.- TBD (? eating out)
Sat.- turkey burgers, cut up veggies/leftovers
Sun.- soup/ fish of some sort, couscous, peas

What's on your menu this week? What are you doing for the 4th of July?

PS-I will link this post to the amazing Kirsten's blog The Frugal Girl and her Food waste Fridays.

  2. I'm making potato salad right now to take to two different celebrations. And my boys walked to Walmart to see if they have red, white and blue MM's to make patriotic monster cookies. And I'm hoping to try a new recipe for lime and coconut grilled chicken for a bring your own meat BBQ tomorrow.

Josh and Aaron will be running the Murray Kids Fun Run after Adam runs the 5K. I've done it two years in the past, but it's not happening this year! Have a great celebration and thanks for thinking of us.

  4. Life is full of sweet reminders of how lucky we are if we take the time to look around as you saw in Wally world. Special needs children really are special!!! I too am tring to stay out of the heat in the kitchen with some quick easy meals or by doing some VERY early morning cooking. Happy 4th to you and your family
