A new floor pouf for our boys' room

In the last month or so I've been working on what's going to transition from one little guy's room to a room for both of them. I'll have more updates on the progress in the next couple of weeks (after I'm done with some accessories).

But I wanted to show you what I made this week. I've had the idea of a pouf for their room in my head for a while. And then I saw how Erica from Retropolitan made hers out of 3 IKEA rugs (click on the name for a link). I thought it was such a brilliant idea!! So I went to IKEA to get my rugs but none of them were in the right color. So I went to my favorite fabric store (Hancocks) instead. I needed something in blue and green. Here's what I got:

It was on sale for only $5 per yard in their leftover area and I got about 1 1/2 yards. It's mostly blue with light-green stripes. Here's a closer look at a fabric:

I cut it in 2 25 X 25 inch squares (I wanted a BIG pouf) and 4 13 X 24 inch pieces for the sides. I sewed it all together and added a zipper on the side for easier cleaning if I have to. One other thing that allowed me to save some money was the filling. One of my friends was moving and she gave me some old batting that she didn't need any more. It wasn't enough to fill in the whole thing but I cut it in squares and got the most out of it. And for the rest I actually used an old blanket :) Here's the result:

And one more picture just because I like it so much :)-

The kids absolutely love it and fight over who is going to sit on it :) I'm seriously considering making another one.

The best thing? The price of this project was about $10!! That is definitely my kind of project!! The price of a West Elm Floor Pouf that was the inspiration for Erica (and me:)? $249!!!!

    1. Oh, the hardest thing is the zipper. The rest is just sewing the straight line. It really is a very easy project!

  4. What a great project!!! Better get back to the store and get another one made before they sell out of the fabric.
