A grocery shopping post!

I know I haven't had a post about grocery shopping trips in a looong long time. The truth is, I don't get deals as much anymore. I kind of slowly almost stopped couponing, etc...altogether. I still do price-matching though.

But I'm thinking it's going to be one of my goals next year to go back to couponing again. Nothing extreme! I just saved quite a bit of money before by clipping coupons but, mostly out of pure laziness, I don't do it as much right now. I haven't organized my coupons in months...But I still pay for a newspaper subscription...Not good.

So today I went for some deals :) Here's how I got all of this for only $6.56:

008-2-1

First, this is what I got:

2 8lbs. hams
1 rotisserie chicken
1 sour cream
1 cream cheese
1 1/2 lbs block mozarella cheese
1 package sliced sandwich cheese
4 boxes of fruit snacks
2 salad dressings
1 big can of pickles
1 bag of powdered sugar
1 bottle of sparkling cider

Santa cookie jar was not included :)

So I went to two stores today. First was Maceys. They are running a promotion that if you buy $100 in gift cards, you get  $10 off your purchase. We are going to buy some wood from Lowes tomorrow (another project we are working on, more on this later), so I just bought gift cards and the $10 discount paid for our grocery shopping (we bought cider, sugar, pickles and chicken), total paid was $1.82 but I will send for a $5 rebate for chicken, so I will make money on this transaction. Then I bought two hams in two separate transactions- one was $10.19 with tax, another one was $10.55. But I have a $5 and a $6 rebates off ham that I will mail tomorrow.

Then we went to Smiths (local Kroger). Smiths right now is running a promotion that if you transfer your prescription, you get a $25 gift card. I needed to refill Baby's constipation meds (yes, he still struggles :( so it was a perfect opportunity. After the refill, all my groceries in Smiths (cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, fruit snacks and dressings) were free. I actually had some coupons too that I used before the RX discount that brought this number down. I still have a little over $13 to spend on my Smiths card.

So after all the discounts, coupons, rebates and promotions I ended up spending only $6.56. Sorry for this bragging post :) I just don't remember the last time I was so excited to go shopping :) And now we are pretty set with ham and some other things for a while.

So this is the excitement of my day :) But before I sign out, I want to let you know that Cindy and Carla both have fun giveaways happening right now. Be sure to go and enter  HERE and HERE. And be sure to check out the blogs of these lovely ladies and follow them if you aren't already. They are both wonderful and I learn every day from them!

OK, now I better go to bed...Have a good night, everyone!

  1. Awesome Lena!
I love those deals where buying RXs or gift cards nets you free groceries. Add in rebates too and it's even better.

  3. I've never seen rebates on meat before. I'm going to have to pay more attention to see if we have deals like that here. That must have been fun shopping to get all of those things for so little money.

    1. The meat rebates are beer rebates. They are not available in all states. For example, the $6 ham one is valid in AL,AR,CT,HI,KY,MA,ME,MN,MO,NC,NJ,NY,RI,UT,WV. These rebates are provided by beer companies but you don't have to buy beer to get paid (at least, at some stores). I don't even drink alcohol at all :)

  4. WOW Lena you "rocked" those deals !!! I haven't had the Crabby Cabbie home barely to cook for much any more as I am sure you have noticed :( .... but there is a visitor coming for a month from Australia so I am sure I can whip up a few things while he is here :)

  5. What a fun trip getting all those deals. I tend to slack off with coupons too once the pantry and freezer gets to full. Now is a great time of year to stock up on pantry and baking items

    1. Oh, prices for baking supplies are awesome right now! Last week I got some semi-sweet chocolate chips for 99c! I don't bake very often but still like to have some on hands.

  6. Those are some very high rebates on meat! I don't think I've ever seen rebates on chicken or ham. I'd be so over that, since most of what I buy is meat and vegetables.

    1. As I said above, it depends on which state you live in. The beer rebates (for meat, produce etc.) are awesome but not all states have them. I would google it to see if they are available where you live.
