I'm really trying to be the cool Mom here...

My sweet little baby boy turned 3 yesterday!

It's crazy how quickly they grow! I know he's not a baby any more but I can't stop calling him that (OK, when he's completely out of diapers than I might try. Until then....ain't happening!)

We didn't throw a big party. I might be a mean Mom but I believe that big and extravagant Birthday parties for the kids under 4 (at least) are more for parents than for kids. The kiddos just seem to be exhausted from all the craziness going on around them. I digress...

We did have a smaller get-together with the family for Birthdays. Our combined family is pretty big. We have at least one Birthday every month of the year, and it's only growing. So kids get a little spoiled :)

But this year my little guy got something pretty big (thanks, Amy!) that sits in the middle of the living room right now.

Our living room is the center of our house - especially due to the fact that there is just no space for anything else in this frugal Chez. It's our media room, a play room, you-can-sleep-on-the-couch guest room (for those times when we have too many guests here) and occasionally even a dining room. And now I have this taking up half of the space:

It's a GIGANTIC cardboard house. Why in the living room? Well, because it wouldn't fit anywhere else! We had no idea how big it would end up being until we were half way done assembling it. It's humongous! But the kids love it. It's so much fun to watch them going in and out, looking through the windows, "checking" the mail and waiting for Santa to descend down the chimney in the end of February... Here's my Birthday boy playing inside:

And here's the proof that I have not two but three little boys in this family. I told you :)

I'm a fun Mom. Well, most of the time...I love to play with kids and do silly things.

But HOW LONG DO YOU THINK ONE TIRED MAMA CAN STAND A ENORMOUS CARDBOARD HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIVING ROOM????

Sigh...

    1. I don't think I could handle it until May :) It will, probably, live in a garage for a while until it gets warmer outside :)

  3. Sorry, but... is that carrot cake?! Goodness, I miss carrot cake. Haha. The cardboard house is indeed huge, wow! Do you have a garage or something to put it in? Maybe an office space? It's a shame there may not be a permanent place for it, but maybe you can make it so it only comes out every few weeks instead of rooting it in the livingroom full time. Awesome gift, though.

    1. Yep, it is :) Gotta get something a little healthier into kids, right?:) Our garage is a hot mess right now :( And the office/guest room is just too small.

  4. Will it fit in their bedroom? Maybe they can sleep in it.

  5. Happy Birthday Baby Boy ! My baby is almost 30, Lena, and I still call him Baby Boy :) . I do not know how long I could really have a huge cardboard house in my living room either; do you have basement space? And yes, Lena, you will always have 3 little boys to look after ... hahahaha.

    1. Nope, no basement either :( I wish...And sometimes Hubby seems to be the youngest of the trio, lol.

  6. I give it two weeks unless you have people coming over.

    1. I always have somebody coming over :) I think they'll have to accept that I have a cardboard house in the middle of the living room as a decor:)

  8. Aww, happy birthday to your beautiful little boy! Were had one of those cardboard houses in our living room also. It does take up a lot of space but because it's cardboard it pretty much got destroyed within a little over a week from all the play(thank goodness). Hehe!

    1. Thank you! That's what I'm hoping for. Then they can't blame it on me :)

  9. So fun! Happy Birthday to your little one! My girls would love that big house...it would have to go in our living room as well. No more room in their bedrooms with the cribs and dressers taking up most of the space.

  10. How cute! I'mt the youngest of two and I'm also 27, and my "Mommy" still calls me her baby! I love it! The box isn't that bad when the kids are having fun lol.

  11. I wouldn't sweat it Lena.
    It's cardboard, right?
2 little boys and 1 big boy? They'll have it destroyed in WEEKS! lolol

  12. You aren't a mean mom for not throwing a big bday party. My kids only get them every other year, if even then. But mostly only for the 'special' milestone bdays. Anyway, hope for some really nice weather and dry ground and send them and the box outside!
