I wish I could write a huge post today but I'm really exhausted right now. My kids were both a little sick last week, and now Hubby and I got it too :( I hope it's the last cold of the season but I'm pretty miserable right now. So this post will be pretty short but I should be back very soon.
But first thing first, guess what I have now?? If you look at the top right corner of my blog, there is a new button there. On My Side of the World is now on Facebook!! Yes, it took me a while to get there but I finally got one. So, please, click on the button and come follow me!! When I reach 150 followers, I'll have a fun giveaway!! :)
Other than that, there is not much happening here. I went through our fridge and pantry and chucked everything that expired away. So today I have a little more food waste than usual:
1. First, I had two cans of soup that expired...uhmmm...6 months ago...I know, I know. The thing is, we NEVER eat canned soup at home because it tastes nothing like homemade (no matter what all the ads say). I got it for my husband when he still had an office job. But now his responsibilities changed, and he spends most of his time in a car, so no soups for him any more. Honestly, I just forgot all about them. Hence the results :(
2. Then, the salsa. I LOVE (and it was love from first bite) Great Value Peach Chipotle Salsa from Walmart. It is so good!! But then I saw this mango peach kind in a local store, and thought it would taste even better.I was WRONG! It tasted absolutely disgusting! And no matter what dishes I tried to put it in, it was still just gross. So it was time for it to go. No regrets here (well, other than wasting $4 on it!)
3. Also this week, we threw away a pack of potato gnocchi (don't ask me why, no excuse. We just never used it before it expired), a spoonful of spinach dip and half of an avocado (again no excuse other than the fact that all three boys can't stand avocado).
All in all, I had better weeks :( But I'm too sick to care right now. As for our menu this week, I don't have one. For the reason, see above. So unless you want to bring me a pot of chicken soup, we will rely mostly on food I have in the freezer and leftovers. This is one of those weeks when I'm grateful we have a full freezer!
So here is what's happening in our frugal Chez. What's happening at yours?? Come on, tell me something good :) Or funny :) Or unusual :)
OK, now I'm blabbering... I better go get to bed...Night night, everyone!
Hope you feel better! I'm off to like your FB page.
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Meredith
Thank you so much Meredith!
DeleteHope you are feeling better soon.

Thank you Carol!
DeleteSo sorry that your family is not feeling well again. Hope that as the weather gets warmer, you get better and no one gets sick all spring and summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's what I hope for too. We were doing so well for a while, but now I hope it's the last cold for us:(
DeleteOh jeez Lena, sorry you are under the weather again. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy!
DeleteRotating food can be so hard, there is always a little something hidden away. We too hate canned soup other than cream soups I cook with but in an emergency they would come in pretty handy. Something funny to share? One of our grands has decided "Nanny I da boss of you" and I am letting her get away with it. As a matter of fact I find it fun to let a 2 year old take me away from all the stuff adults have to do! Ha
ReplyDeleteYour grands are so funny, love them :)
DeleteAww... hope you're all feeling better soon!! Hugs!! Off to add you to FB, i'd love it if you'd add me too, Lena! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought I have!! I'm gonna go check!!
DeletePS - I tried to add you and it said "Page not Found"... ?? Not sure if that's on my end or your end though.. ??
ReplyDeleteI don't know :( But I sent you a friend request!!
DeleteI hope you feel better! Liked you on Facebook. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I appreciate it :)
DeleteHope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteI cleaned out the pantry last night and wiped everything down and organized...it is beautiful...for now! I only had to throw out some funny smelling oyster crackers and a handful of stale pretzels. I think your canned soup might still be good if you want to give it a try. In my experience those types of things are dated conservatively!
Thank you!
DeleteAnd good job on organizing your pantry :) I was debating about these soups but we decided against eating them because they are made with meat and milk :( And it's been more than 6 months already!
I am sad about the gnocchi. That's one of my favorite foods. :)
ReplyDeleteI was sad about them too :( They were just lost and forgotten behind the big pickle jar in a fridge :(
DeleteFeel better Lena!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon.
Deletehope you guys are better soon...we had it here too...and it seemed like forever!
ReplyDeletenot one person in this house liked the mango peach salsa but me....I put it on a baked potato.
Thank you! I actually don't mind peach salsa at all but not this kind. It was gross!
DeleteBoy you and I are both in the same boat. I feel yucky and want to go back to bed.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry :( I hope you feel better very soon Kim!
DeletePoor gnocchi. I managed to let a bottle of mustard go bad (didnt even think that was possible!)... and so a bottle of dressing that I really did like. I did use most of the mustard to make a sauce with porkchops (and didn't die from it... woo hoo), but it's probably not recommendable.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of mustard going bad either but mustard pork chops sound delicious (and I'm glad you felt OK after eating them :)! And yeah...gnocchi became slimy and gross :( Not suitable for consumption...
