Getting ready for winter...

Hello, everyone! How's your Friday the 13th been??

It was a quiet day here, nothing mysterious or special :) This whole week was pretty quiet. I know, it's been five days since my last post... It's harder to write about things that have nothing to do with my Mom, especially because we are still waiting on the results of her tests. They did a biopsy and a spinal tap on top of blood tests and other basic tests. But we will only get the results on Monday. So it's been the waiting game all week, and all I could do was keeping myself busy and try to stay away from the computer because when I was online, I would go back to reading about myeloma, and the more I read, the more I got scared (consulting Dr. Google might not be the smartest thing to do)...Yeah, so I kept my mind and my hands busy with other things.

Like preparing for winter... I have some very generous friends who shared parts of their fruit crops with me like apples, pears, nectarines, oh and how about these amazing peaches??

Yum! And I could share with them our abundance of zucchinis. It's a win-win :)

Our zucchinis, actually, kind of slowed down. I picked one this week and saw a couple more coming but that might be it for the season. Oh well, we had a good run and enjoyed plenty of deliciousness this summer. I did can some of our zucchinis (using a basic dill pickle recipe). And also some tomatoes and apple-pear sauce:

But I wasn't done there. I also froze corn on the cob. We really like some almost fresh-tasting corn in winter:

And some spinach too. Delicious!

We also made our first peach-pear fruit lather in the dehydrator but it just never made it to a picture :) Now I have a new favorite snack for the kids...

And we are getting ready for winter: our pantry is full of summer's bounty, our freezer is filled with fruit and vegetables... Life is good!

And how was your week?? I missed you all, my friends!

  1. All of this looks wonderful! I would really like to start doing this.

  2. I think corn is one of the things that maintains its flavor best in the freezer. Frozen corn is truly a treat in winter.

  3. Lena, send me your address I would like to send you a little present! Kim

  4. My fingers and toes are crossed for your mother. Waiting for results is always horrible Take care

  5. Everything looks delicious Lena~ Every Thanksgiving I make corn-on-the-cob that I froze and everyone loves it:) It is much better than the Green Bean Casserole, even though everyone loves that too:) Lynn @ Turnips 2 Tangerines
