Saying goodbye to September...

Wow, I can't believe it's the first of October already. September just flew by! I guess, the weather does remind us that winter is right around the corner. It will be 39 here tonight - time to change that furnace filter already... sigh... glad not to have summer heat any more but so not ready for cold weather...

September was also full of all kinds of doctor's appointments for me. I gave up on trying to stay within our medical budget. We get some sort of bills it seems like every other day. Anywhere between $12 and $1200. The good thing is that it's slowly chipping off of the big sum at the end when the babies are here. The bad is that it's all new for us. With both of our boys, we would get one global bill at the end with another one from the anesthesiologist. Now I just keep writing checks...

On a good note, the babies are growing and very active. They measure about a week ahead and are gaining weight steadily. I, on the other hand, have lost two pounds since my last appointment. So far I only gained 18 pounds with this pregnancy which is way less than it was with my boys by now. Granted, I started a little bit on the heavier side and my doctor is not concerned but it still feels weird to lose while the babies are gaining... I told you this GD diet is kicking my tush... And I'm measuring as if I'm 38 weeks (with a singleton pregnancy) at not even 30. That's kind of crazy!! I know I have 2 growing there but it's scary to think how big I'm going to get...

We decided to increase our grocery budget at least for the month of October to accommodate my new needs and also meal freezing. Last month we added just $50 to shop for freezer meal ingredients. I don't know who I was kidding! Meat alone costs so much more than that! I comfort myself with the fact that if I'm prepared, we won't need to shop much in November or December. Because I doubt we will have time for that :)

Otherwise, I'll be taking it easy and slow in October. No big goals here. That feels weird! I'll be packing a hospital bag, finishing the little things in the babies' room and working as much as I can since it might be my last paycheck for a while...

And what are your goals for the next few upcoming months?

  1. We are hoping to get Christmas organised early because L is expected to be called for her back operation sometime between December and February.
Hope you manage to get plenty of rest and low blood glucose.

  2. I know it must be hard for someone like you who is always super planned, but getting freezer meals done, finishing up the babies room, and working is more than enough for anyone to do pregnant or not. (And not to mention two little boys and one big one to take care of.) Good luck with everything.

  3. I am glad you are doing as well as you are.
I was pretty much down all September, I am hoping to give my home a deep clean and get back to doing some sewing.

  4. Hi Lena! I'm glad to hear that you are going to be taking it easy in October. I remember how active my little ones were in my belly- I cant imagine having two of them wrestling around in there- haha. It sounds to me that you are doing very well, all things considered. I know that being on a strict diet can be tough- I have to go through it once a year for 3 or more weeks when I get cancer check-ups. It is more expensive to have to accommodate special foods and dietary needs/restrictions. Just hang in there, my friend. You are almost there. I know it feels like it may still be a way off but you are coming down the homestretch. The end results will be more than precious!! I cant wait to see those little munchkins! :)

  6. How do you buy meat? The reason I ask is I wait for sales to purchase meat.
Plans? 50th hs reunion in October. Cataract surgery possibly in November.
Tonight, I bought apples to dehydrate. At $0.98/lb, it seemed like a good time to buy. I am sure there are cheaper apples out there, but driving there and walking would cancel the savings.

    Good luck with the babies.

    1. Usually I do too. I always stock up when I see good sales. But I was a little more flexible in September due to time constraints. I only have a few weeks left :) I still shopped sales but, maybe, not as good as the prices I usually try to stick to.

  7. I too, hate to pay out money for bills. But you always have a great working plan so don't stress. You have everything covered.

  8. Very glad to hear you're holding up ok! A quiet October sounds just fine. It will be quite a wind whirl thereafter. September was actually quite a wash for me, so I am looking to do a bit more in October... at least, have a bit more of a structure!

  9. I think under the circumstances it's ok to lose weight on your GD diet (sounds like we're swearing lol)! And I'm sure once the twins are born those pounds are going to disappear in no time! The next month is a time of relaxing and GROWING! You have done so well so far Lena - I'm proud and thrilled for you.
