We filed our taxes about two weeks ago, and while we were there at the office, the tax lady mentioned that they haven't received the American opportunity tax credit in 2010. . The American opportunity tax credit, which expanded and renamed the already-existing Hope scholarship credit, can be claimed for expenses paid for tuition, certain fees and course materials for higher education in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
So we asked if you could do an amendment, and when they said yes,we scheduled another appointment for today. They actually found another mistake that was made in our original documents. Anyway, with all of this we are getting back $719 more. Our state return changed to be $40 less, so we owe this money now (we'll pay it next week). But I'll take $679 difference. I'm one happy girl today! This month really turns to be a good one so far!!
Always nice to get a little back of what you paid in. We will be writing a check to the tax man next week, :(
ReplyDeleteThis was the first year for us to owe taxes to the State. I think,we are just so broke that we get a lot back thanks to all kinds of credits.

DeleteWOW! How luck are YOU!! Congrats - any plans for the extra money??
ReplyDeleteWell, we took my MIL for dinner last night. But other than that it will all go into our minivan fund. It will kind of outweigh the fact that I'm not babysitting any more.
DeleteSuper awesome. I'm so happy to read this super great news. I'm glad the month has started so great.
