Seriously????

I opened my yahoo account today, and the first article in the news I've seen was this- Nutella is not Broccoli (direct link) . The lady sued Ferrero because she thought that Nutella was a healthy choice for her kids, and later found out it was not. She won, and the settlement was 3.5 million dollars.

Seriously??? Like are you for real??? She did NOT KNOW that Nutella was not healthy for her kids?? I swear, it sometimes feels that stupidity pays off in this country. How about reading a label? It is a chocolate spread, after all!

I only wonder though how much of it she will actually get, or will the majority go to her lawyers and to be spread out among other claimants?... I find this absolutely ridiculous!

ps- and just so you know, I myself love Nutella - just not every day...

    1. I know. I don't even think it's a mistake. Nutella is pure chocolate, plain and simple! I think she just did it for money.

    1. It is super yummy and chocolatey. We just put it on our bread. It does have hazelnuts in it, and that's where "the healthy" idea came from but it's still a chocolate treat.

  4. That is a joke! Its like these people look out for scams to claim on.Like the guy who sued mcdonalds for millions because he didnt know his coffee was hot because it wasnt stated on his cup,and he won! stupidity should not be rewarded x

    2. Maybe we're missing something here. She is not stupid. She is making money off it :))) Stupid are the ones who allowed her to win the settlement, I'd say. I actually read smth about it on a blog yesterday.... if you bought Nutella in the last 3 years, you can get up to $20 back (lol). The problem appears to be 'false advertising', they claimed in their ads that the product was healthy or something like that? Well, although it cannot be considered a healthy product, it is definitely a million times better than the crap a lot of people feed their kids. No offense, but most American candies / deserts / sweet products are just loaded with sugar, HFCS, additives, artificial colors, aspartam etc. If you read Nutella label, you won't find all this... maybe because Ferrero is an Italian company and in Europe they still care about what they put in food. When I crave smth sweet, I usually buy European stuff because it has way less sugar. American stuff is so sweet, makes me throw up.

    3. Well, in their commercial they show that cocoa, hazelnuts and milk go into their product...But anybody who tried Nutella knows that it's has tons of sugar in it too. I agree, it might be a little healthier option but, honestly, not much. She is definitely making money off of it! They paid her a settlement to avoid a long and painful trial. But her claiming that she didn't know that Nutella is not healthy shows that she's either stupid or a liar (which I personally believe it's second). That's just my opinion!

    4. I still think there's more to it than what meets the eye. She couldn't have figured out all this without being advised by a lawyer, I'd say. I mean, how crazy is is to sue a company based on this and actually win? It's just something shady about it. There's hundreds of commercials on tv that claim stuff that is not real, but nobody's suing them. Maybe they're just trying to eliminate non-American companies off the market so that American ones can keep selling their "delicious" goodies. Just an example, the American all-time favorite breakfast item - pop tarts . Let's check blueberry frosted pop tarts label and we'll discover corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, sugar, TBHQ (that sounds like something you must have everyday lol), red#40, blue#2, blue#1. If this is healthier than Nutella..... I think I made my point. And oh, there are way more people who feed their kids pop tarts for breakfast on a constant base.

  5. I can't believe this either. I've actually never had or even seen nutella but I hear about it all over the PF blogosphere. I honestly can't believe she won that lawsuit. So sad.

I do want to taste this nutella even more now though.
