An impromptu fiscal fast...

We blew our budget this month! We sat down with Hubby over the weekend and looked at our numbers. As dear Maureen predicted, I got a home decorating bug and went slightly overboard. I didn't do anything big or major, just some stain here, spray-paint there, a vase or two...You know how it happens...But the total number ended up a lot bigger than I expected. On top of that, our gift budget this month just exploded. We got 3 B-day, 2 Father's Day  and 1 graduation gifts so far.And the month is not over yet... Also Hubby sent a package for my Grandma today (she has a Birthday on July 1st) who lives in Russia, and the shipping was $69!!!! Seriously! I spent less, way less on the gift itself! Good thing I only send a package like this twice a year. But our gift spending already hit $220, and we still have my SIL's Birthday coming. Mind you, all these gifts were for family members only! That's what we get for having such a big family:)

To make things even worse, today I finally sent my documents for the Russian International passport. Well, in two weeks that I procrastinated, the price for this service went up from $460 to $525. Sometimes waiting a little can help but not in this case...This was a very unexpected blow to the head because I will still need to get pictures for this passport and might have more translations to pay for (the ones that require signatures).

So we decided that it's time for a fiscal fast again. We will try to spend very little for the rest of the month and virtually none for home improvement stuff and no more gifts other than the one for my sister-in-law.

Do you want to join me? You create the rules for yourself. Save money to put towards your debt or vacation or whatever you need to save for, or just curb your spending (like I do). Whatever works for you! And share your success stories or useful tips on saving money with me!

  3. Oh dear it looks as if I created a prophesy, still I bet your home looks gorgeous now and it must give you a lot of pleasure.

I will join your fiscal fast as I received 2 bills in the post today 1 of them I did'nt expect and the other was $50 more than I expected.

So no more spending on coffees, presents for the Grandchildren or home decorating the only thing I have to worry about is Hubby's birthday on the 1st July. Fingers crossed....

  4. I'm in, as I have no business right now and I can't spend what I don't have. I made my famous burger, onion and 5 bean hot dish tonight with home made bread. No going to the store. Tomorrow chicken and sweet potatoes.

  7. Just found your lovely blog from Out My Window! Looking forward to reading more and catching up!

I know what you mean, we blew our budget in May and paying for it in June just to find out we will be having an decrease in income starting soon.

I had to figure out a budget for 6 people on only a Greand a month so fiscal fast or financial famine? LOL

    1. Welcome, and thanks for stopping by. And I'm so sorry about the decrease in income. $1000 a month is very little money, especially for a family of six. I hope you can find some sort of a side hustle income. Good luck!
