Food waste Monday(Tuesday) and a menu, week 7/30-8/5

Pin It       I really really do not like Century Link (I'm trying hard to be nice here...)!!! Like really really!! I was going to post yesterday and surely enough, we had another outage and our Internet wasn't working any more!! I swear it happens at least once a month right now. I don't know if they have too many clients and can't keep up or what but I'm seriously considering switching a provider because it wasn't working almost the whole day today  and part of the day yesterday!! Anyway, here's my original post :)

Do you go to the sales home parties? I deeply dislike these parties. I understand it's a way for others to make a little extra money but I'm yet to go to a party where I can find something I like, I need and can't find cheaper somewhere else. Most of the time the stuff is way overpriced but I usually purchase out of guilt or because the hostess works hard to organize the party.

I visited a healthy food party a few months ago. My friend was really struggling financially and I wanted to help her out. Plus, I was curious about "healthy food". I ended up purchasing  a few things including this:

It's a Thai Sesame peanut butter sauce. It's delicious with pasta but turned out that Hubby was severely allergic to it :( So we only ate it once! I've been moving it in a fridge ever since until it expired ...I didn't feel right to offer somebody an opened bottle... Especially with the price tag of $13.95 for  a 12 oz. bottle...Read big sigh here... We also had some canned apricots that got lost on the back of the fridge and went bad  and half a can of of mandarin oranges that husband opened and left on the counter overnight...triple sigh this week...

And on our menu (all blue recipes are the links in case you are interested :) :

Mon.- Salmon with apricot glaze (update: made it in the oven, delicious!!), orzo, cheesy zucchini
Tues.- Cranberry ham rolls
Wed.- pasta with tomato sauce, salad
Thurs.- hamburgers, sweet potato fries, corn on the cob
Fr.- Zucchini pasta
Sat.- sandwiches/ ? eating out
Sun.- turkey meatballs, rice, broccoli/ whatever leftovers we have

What are you eating this week?

PS-I will link this post to the amazing Kirsten's blog The Frugal Girl and her Food waste Fridays.

  1. I so agree with attending the home parties!! For the most part I just don't go. Cleaning out the frige is on my to do list for today, I am afraid it's going to be a mess after returning home from my little girls trip

  2. Never feel bad Lena, about offering an open bottle to someone else from your home, as they might be happy to "try" before they buy too. Careful with your hubby's allergies; my youngest developed a severe allergy to bananas after 28 years ! xxx

    Zucchini Pasta? Do tell !!!

    1. Wow, I've never heard of the allergies on bananas!! I think I was just concerned about germs and stuff. Or that somebody else will get sick after eating it (in case it wasn't allergies after all...) And click on Zucchini pasta if you are interested, it's a link :)

  3. I feel you on the internet. Because of all the current storms, the ISP keeps being lousy and blaming the weather, which I am sure is only responsible for a VERY small part of the outages. But what can we do... you know, if you have really good friends, neighbors or family close by, I'm sure they'd take an open bottle of dressing, especially if the reason you're giving it away is because your Dh is alergic! Hope this week is kinder to your leftovers. This heat is spoiling things much too fast.

    1. We don't even have any storms! They can't explain what causes constant outages. The heat is definitely not helping with food waste :(

  4. We haven't had any trouble with Century Link lately, but I know how that goes because a few years ago, our phones went out all the time.

  5. We are only eating leftovers this week. Adam and Nathan are at scout camp and the food lasts a lot longer without him home :)

  6. Hi Lena,
I looked into home party sales, this last year, as a way of generating income. After looking at many, many different product lines, I walked away from that idea because I couldn't find a product that I truly liked for the price they wanted me to charge. I couldn't see me asking my friends to pay such prices, or invite their friends to parties so expensive. Too bad, because I like the general idea.
