Are you ready for February to be over?

I am. Even though it's the shortest month of the year, it sure has been long for us. It wasn't all bad. We finished one of our bigger projects in the house - our half-bath. I had a Birthday, we had Valentine's Day and tomorrow my Baby (not so much baby any more) is turning 3!! My little guys are growing too fast!

But there was plenty of ugly too. First, my trip to the ER earlier this month, then new tires, and to top it off our microwave broke last week. It just started sparkling and there was a terrible smell...So it's unrepairable:( This microwave actually had a story behind it. Two years ago, a week before Christmas, our previous microwave went out. I was in despair! We had no money left after spending too much for gifts and other things (you know how it is right before Christmas, and before I started actually saving money throughout the year). Back then I wasn't very smart about setting money aside for emergencies plus Hubby was finishing school, so there wasn't much to set aside...Anyway, I looked on classifieds but there wasn't anything listed in our price range (nobody sells anything right before Christmas...). And the regular store was out of question...

And until your microwave breaks, you don't realize how often you use it! That night I was browsing on the Pinching Your Pennies coupon site and accidentally stumbled upon Classifieds there that I've never seen before. Guess what the very first ad that I saw was?? Yep, a microwave. A FREE MICROWAVE! The girl was trying to sell it before...but again, nobody buys microwaves before Christmas either... So she just wanted it gone! And I was the first to call. It was such an amazing blessing for us and a true spirit of Christmas! We didn't pay for it but we gave her a $15 iTunes gift card that we happened to have at home.

And that microwave lasted for more than a year until last Friday :( This time nobody was giving away anything for free :) We decided to buy a new one. I actually used the $100 that my Mom gave me that I set aside for a day like this. So we still didn't touch our emergency fund but I know it's going to happen in March when medical bills will start rolling in. Oh well, that's why it's there...And I love my new microwave (don't mind the reflection in it. It's all clean dishes :))

But I'm still ready for February to be over! I'm ready for spring, for sun and grass, and I'm ready for longer days. What about you? Are you ready for spring?

I have some extra work to do this week before the end of the month, so it will be mostly a low-key stay-at-home week. We do have a baby shower for a family member on Tuesday as well as my boy's Birthday but other than that it should be pretty quiet here. And as for our menu, this is what we planned:

Mon.- fettuccine with mushroom sauce, steamed broccoli
Tues.- Baby shower/ cupcakes for the Birthday party
Wed.- hot dogs, sweet potato fries, salad
Thurs.- sandwiches
Fr.- broccoli cheese soup (bumped from last week)
Sat.- chicken quesadillas, salad
Sun.- dinner with friends (their place, don't know yet what we are bringing)

What's on your menu this week?

  1. I had to chuckle as I read your post -- My microwave has been flaky since the first of the year and I think it has finally given up the ghost. Since I am trying to get my BEF funded I am making the choice to live without one until I can save up money for it (but there is only me to inconvenience). Wish me luck -- as I will have to plan menus and cooking times.

    1. Good luck!! I can't imagine my life without a microwave with two kiddos. I feel like I'm always reheating something :) But I would work on EF first too, good luck with that!

  2. It's always something! Glad you were able to get your new microwave and still have that EF setting pretty. I am not ready for spring yet, I still have so many things I planned on getting done over the winter that I need a few more day's, weeks, months, Ha. Easy for me to say as we don't really have cold weather here

  4. You're right about the microwave. You don't know how much you use it until it breaks. At least that certainly has been my experience. Glad you have your replacement and that this one lasts for years and years.

  5. I am SO ready for spring and for Feb to be over. I need to stop wishing my life away too. But congrats on the microwave. I agree, there are some things you just dont know how useful or how much you need them until they're gone. I like Tuesday's dinner plans!

  6. I'm with you... Februrary can be done... i'd like some warmth & sunshine please. lol!! I'm also hoping to make back some of the money hubby spent on our Chameleon, but we shall see in a couple of days. If not, i'm going to be very disappointed. :( I've been doing some budget crunching and tough times are coming... I feel your pain! I hope March is a good month for both of us!!
