In the last few weeks we've been working on some projects in our kitchen. I can't wait to share them all with you (when I take good pictures of some and finish others :)
But today I want to show you my favorite one so far. Why do I like it so much? Because it's something I did with my son :)
We needed a new wall piece of decor for our eating area of the kitchen. Something bright and fun (you know, two of my favorite). And I had an idea that we could do together. And here's what we got:
Here's how we did it. You need:
- One canvas in any size you want (we did 24x30 in, got it during Michaels 50% off sale.)
- acrylic paints in whatever colors you want
- pool noodle
- disposable plates
- a finish to protect your project
- a very eager 6-year old (5-8 year old would do too :)
Pour some paints on plates and dab your noodle "tool":
And then let your kids go to town on the canvas. I promise you, they'll have a blast (and yes, you can help them :):
We did paint after paint, didn't even wait for them to dry. Kid was so excited to help me (oh, he thought I was helping him :). You really can't go wrong with it! Do whatever feels right, have fun with it!! After you are done, you can call it "Modern art" :)
Here's a close look at "ours":
Isn't it fun? :) And it makes Kid so proud that he "almost" did it himself :)
Have you done any fun projects with your kids/grand kids recently? Please, do share :)

ReplyDeleteXOXO,

Thank you Meredith! It actually turned out a lot better than I thought it would :) And he really did a good half of it, so he's so proud of himself :)
DeleteUmmmmmm.....wow! That is so cool! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteFab picture. Kids love it when they are on display. Our stair side was always filled with L pictures she had brought home from school or made at home.

We have two gutter shelves in the hall leading to the kitchen that are also filled with "masterpieces" :) They sit there for a while and then I save the most precious ones.
DeleteSuper!! I really liked it!! A good project for my little on to - even she is only near 3! Thank you for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it :) You can use non-toxic paints that are made specifically for little ones :)
DeleteWhat a great idea!! Love how you sons masterpiece turned out
ReplyDeleteThank you Debby!
DeleteTell "Kid" that I love his work. And I like the colors that his mother chose.
ReplyDeleteI will :)
DeleteThat is so cool. I love it! You've inspired me to work on one with my son - I've pinned one that uses water colours, clear glue, and kosher salt - I think I'll have one very happy three year old!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for awhile, and I love your posts!
That will make a great project for 3-year old. I need to check it out!
DeleteThank you for your kind words. I appreciate it!
Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy. It was :)
DeleteSpecial times to remember with these bonding moments! x
ReplyDeleteThat's so true Cindy :)
DeleteThat's cute. I like your new blog design, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Becky!!
DeleteTell him good job! Those pool noodles made great sponge painting tools. I'll have to remember that.
ReplyDeleteI will :)
DeleteIt does look fun, and I know my kids would like doing that too.
ReplyDeleteI bet they would! And you can't mess it up :)
DeleteWonderful picture and good job to both of you! What a great idea and being able to include your son makes it even better!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy :)
DeleteThis is awesome! I'd like to use this in one of my upcoming paintings. Love the texture.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tanya! And you are so talented :)
DeleteThis is so cute... Nothing better then art made with love.
ReplyDeleteThank you Orlando! I agree :)
DeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteAny other ideas other than pool noodles? Noodles won't be out for a bit longer here. :)
You could probably use just a cut up sponge. It will give you a different texture but should still look fun :) That's one project you can't really mess up :)
DeleteWhat a perfect kid-friendly project, and it looks pretty fabulous! Thanks for linking this up to Monday Funday!
ReplyDeleteLena, what a great project to do with your son! And now it has a prominent display which will remind both of you of the fun you had making it together :-) Thank you for sharing at ALL MY BLOGGY FRIENDS !
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool! I love the art of kids!
