Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, I think everybody is getting in a Christmas mood. I love Christmas! I love giving ( and receiving :) gifts, I like good food and lots of fun crafting and decor that inevitably comes with the holiday season. I love holiday traditions, but among all the hustle and bustle of the preparation for the biggest day of the year for so many people, I find myself looking for some serenity. I feel like so often we forget why this holiday is called CHRISTmas. That Christ and His birth, and His eternal sacrifice is what we should be truly celebrating!
This year we plan on having more activities concentrated on Christ to teach our kids the true meaning of Christmas. We started this season by opening THE BOX:
This is a simple cardboard shoe box that kids "decorated" solely and entirely with some Dollar store stickers. The box has been sitting on our TV stand since the beginning of the year (definitely didn't help with the decor...) So what is so special about it? Well, it's a "Thankful box". Last New Year's Eve we decided that every first Monday of the month we would write things we are thankful for throughout the year and then we planned to read it all for Thanksgiving. Well, it didn't happen right on Thanksgiving Day but we opened it this morning. And there were many things that we were thankful for that we forgot about already. Like rain...Did I really write this?? And we were thankful for other things too. Like, this for example :) :
Aww, I can always use some of this balm to my soul :) I think, for us it was a great way to remember the reason for the season. I hope with all the craziness of life, we all will have a minute to stop and say a little prayer of gratitude for His everlasting love.
What are you grateful for in your life?

A beautiful tradition that you are starting with your boys. It's a good thing for all of us to take a minute and remember all that we have to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that. I like how you let the boys decorate the box themselves.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about CHRISTmas I also think a lot of people have forgotten why we celebrate Christmas. I like your thankful box and it has got me thinking. Thank you for sharing it with us.
