One March project - done!

Thank you, everyone, for your get well wishes. I'm still fighting this cold but I'm definitely feeling better. It's helping that it's about 60 degrees outside right now! I love love love this weather. I spent about an hour yesterday digging in the garden and preparing it for the season while the boys played soccer. Oh, I missed spring so much :)

But on top of gardening, we also worked  on one small March project here. For a while, I wanted to replace my "menu planner" with something nicer and more practical. This is what I used to have:

Yep, nasty wipe-off fridge sticky thing that I've been using for the past 3 years that's permanently dirty, unfortunately (and yes, my menu plan this week is pathetic...). But not any more!

Now I have this, and I love it:

A few months ago, after we finished Boy's room, we had some leftover chalk paint from their chalkboard, and I thought I wouldn't need any more, so I gave it to my friend. Then when I came to visit, I saw that she painted a huge chalkboard on her kitchen wall for grocery lists, menus and for kids to play. I immediately fell in love with the idea! I wanted it in my kitchen too.

The problem is that our kitchen is small. We just didn't have a wall to paint. Until I had the idea (and had to buy more chalk board paint :). We could do it on the pantry door!! As usual, I forgot to take a before picture of the door but it's just the plain kind, nothing fancy. I like how it looks right now much better :)

I don't have a tutorial for it. It was nothing special really. There are millions of tutorials for chalk boards out there. I simply taped, lightly sanded, primed and painted the door, and then did the same steps (minus taping) with some molding. Don't you love this bright cheerful yellow?? I do :)

I also added a cabinet pull handle attached upside down to hold chalks:

I got it at Hobby Lobby for about $2 (on 50% sale). I just love how this door chalk board turned out! It's great for menu planning and grocery lists. And the kids love it too:

Say Hello to Big Foot :)

And now we are done with one of our March projects here. I love when projects turn out exactly the way I planned them:)

  2. That turned out cute. My kids have an easel chalkboard that they're always dragging out into the middle of the living room. It'd be nice to have one stuck on the wall instead.

    1. Yeah, in the middle of the living room would be fun :) Maybe, you need to attach it to the wall somewhere? :)

  4. I LOVE it Lena ! I wish I had room for a larger chalk board in my kitchen, however I have no walls there either for one, hence my little retro board instead. Hope you get better faster then you have been. xx

    1. I love your little board :) The pantry door was the only place where it would work for us.

Luckily, they can't reach to the top of it :)

  10. I love how that turned out! I'd like to do that on my pantry door, too, but it is 6 panel oak, and I think my husband might have something to say about it!

    1. Yeah, it would be hard :) Our door was cheap and ugly, so Hubby didn't mind at all :)

  14. Lena - that worked out well. I don't think that far ahead for meals - we tend to go more or less day by day. I'm organised in other areas so I need to think about meal planning. Cheers

    1. If I didn't plan weekly, we totally overspend. We try to stay within a budget, and it's not always easy :)

  18. Would love this on my pantry door too! How well does chalk erase? Does it come off pretty easily or does it leave it's mark time and time again?

    1. It comes off pretty easily (and as you can see, it gets plenty of abuse :) I conditioned it before using by applying chalk all over, and it works great!
