I haven't posted our usual menu for the week yesterday because I, honestly, don't have one. We have something going on and I'm itching to tell you all about it but it will have to wait for a couple of days :)
But today I decided to join Carla's No-Low spend challenge for January. The last few months were pretty expensive for us. We haven't received medical bills for our trip to ER yet but I know it will be an unpleasant one when it comes. I'm honestly surprised that we haven't received it yet. I thought because we don't have any insurance, they would want their money quicker but, I guess, not. We called them twice already and they still don't have any numbers for us.
But even after discounts I expect it to be anywhere between $1000 to $2000. We have the money but it will make a nice dent in our savings. And considering that our financial goal for next year was to save a certain amount, we want to have a good start on it.
I'm still working on our plan for this challenge and I doubt I will post it before the end of the year but our goal at the moment would be to save as much as we can towards this dreaded bill (ideally, at least half). I really need to crunch some numbers because some of our other bills will be higher this and next moth but I am, or at least, I will be ready. After the holidays :)
Are you cutting back in January? How was your Christmas shopping and spending so far?
I am praying those numbers come in on the lowest end for you, Lena. I haven't had time to put my mind around Carla's No-Low Spend Challenge this Year. I know I will be doing the 52 Week Challenge again myself. xx
ReplyDeleteI might be joining you for this challenge too :)
DeleteHi Lena, I will be joining Carla!s challenge too. I like the accountability.
ReplyDeleteWhen you do get the bill, call them and ask what kind of discount they will give you if you pay right away. Hospitals are very glad to get paid and often will give a discount, but you have to ask.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we will! They already gave us a 40% discount but we can always try to negotiate some more:)
DeleteOuch!! $1-2K for a trip to the ER? :( That is just brutal... i'm still working on my goal for January as well, but it won't be "huge" as there's just not that much to "go around"! Glad you're joining in though, Lena!!
ReplyDeleteYep, it's pretty expensive when you don't have the insurance because they can charge whatever they want. I'm only guessing here but I judge by what my SIL had to pay :( But I'm happy to challenge us to save as much as we can towards this bill during January :)
DeleteAs you know, I'm starting the year off with a complete fast, but then hop on to Carla's challenge. It'll be nice to have all of the support from everyone! :)!
ReplyDeleteWill you be getting health insurance with your husband's new job? I hope that your medical bills will not be too high!
Yes, but it will only kick in on January 1st. Counting days :)...
DeleteYes Lena, I will be joining the low spend challenge in January. We actually plan to have a low spend and big saving 2014 and maybe a year or so after that.
ReplyDeleteWe have a goal to pay off our one debt and hope to do that with very careful spending.
Those medical bills are so unpredictable, I am sorry you have one but I know you would do anything to make your son better.
Yes, absolutely!!
DeleteI'm excited for you, guys, to pay off that debt!
I'm totally in also! I am paying off medical bills now, too. I paid my hospital bill but still have my son's. No fun!
ReplyDeleteYeah, those medical bills are killers :(
DeleteI am also joining the no/low spending challenge. Haven't yet figured out what my goals are but I still have a little time.
