I got this pretty fabric many-many months ago:
It was a leftover piece, and I spent only $3 and some change on it. In the back of my mind I always knew that I wanted to make pillow covers out of it. I just never had time. But it seems like so many of you on blogosphere are doing something house-related - buying and selling, getting new fridges or mattresses, creating amazing quilts and other little trinkets to make your life and habitat a little prettier and easier.
Well, what can I say? You inspired me to dig through my stash (that and trying to clean the "dreadful room". Still work in progress...). When I stumbled upon this fabric piece, I got giddy with excitement. It's exactly what I needed to bring some color and spring mood into our house. They turned out better than I thought(the green one is a $3 Ikea cover):
Oh, how much I like this ikat print. Yum! These are very simple pillow covers (I made two but only one is shown on the pic above). I did add a zipper on the side which in itself was quite a sewing achievement for me. Hey, all of you, sewing ninjas, no laughing! The girl is learning here :) My lines actually look pretty straight. Ha! (I said, no laughing!):
I'm so in love with them. They just scream fun and make me wanna break into dancing. More so, this small project inspires me to make more, to create more. Maybe, even more sewing, who knows (don't count on it too much :)
I really like how this previously boring, bland room slowly comes together and reflects our bright and funky personalities and my love for color. And if you flip the pillow, it looks kind of different:
Which side do you like more??

I like both sides, very cheerful! And I especially like you were brave and made them. I love to sew and it is such a useful skill too. Hope you have lots more fun and successful sewing projects in your future.
ReplyDeleteBut if you do sew something that doesn't work out, just toss it because it was only fabric, and move onto something else.
I think tossing is the hardest part :) I grew up watching my Mom sewing everything, from swim suits to fur coats. At some point her skills were our only income. But she did not allow us to touch her swing machine because it was very old, and because it was a way to provide for our family. I wish we paid more attention at what an how she did things but, I guess, it's time for me to learn on my own. My sister is actually a lot more skillful because by the time she was a teenager, my Mom already had a full-time job and taught her in her spare time. I, on the other hand, is pretty good at embroidering, knitting and crocheting :)
Deletereally love that fabric and it does indeed give a major pop of colour and it's such a cheerful looking fabric. I have posted our virtual tour of our house today on my blog post.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely check it out :)
DeleteOh so cute Lena! I think I like the first side better as the blue strip goes right across the centre. One more thing to add to my "retirement" list. I have a nice new sewing machine that has hardly been used at all! And I actually love to sew. Just don't have the time! Congrats on yet another project that turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the first side better too. And I know what you mean about the time. Learning how to sew is on my very long skill bucket list. I just wish sometimes that we could survive without sleep :)
DeleteThat picture with a hydrangea in it --so pretty! Looks like a magazine :)
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you so much! :)
DeleteGorgeous, Lena!! They turned out so well, and your zipper looks superb! Such talent my friend!! :)
ReplyDeleteHearing this compliment from you... now I'm turning red :)
DeleteI'm impressed; I think you did a great job with the zipper. I'm not crazy about putting in zippers. Or button holes. I guess that's why I quilt. No hard stuff there. lol
ReplyDelete:) I think, it's like my 4th zipper ever. And the first two were in high school :)
DeleteWow, Lena! That pillow rocks!! LOVE the pattern..kind of hard to pick which side is cooler!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, my friend!
DeleteYour cushion is lovely. It looks nice whichever way you place it and the colour is so fresh looking.
ReplyDeleteA job well done,
Carolx
Tough to pick a side... but I'm 51% for side B and 49% for side A. Both equally lovely. I love how that room looks. You did fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tanner!
DeleteI LOVE IT! If I could sew, I would dance too. But I can't do either. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteHaha... I guess, I'm a proof that you can learn both :)
DeleteLena - those are AWESOME pillows! Girl, you should be selling them on ETSY!! Looks like you are an awesome seamstress (straight lines along a zipper???!!!! WOW!). LOVE THEM!! People would pay good money for pillow covers like that - - - seriously!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the first side better.
ReplyDeleteHi Lena~ Great pillows!! I love both sides:) Can't believe how pillows can add so much color to a room! Lynn @ Turnips 2 Tangerines
