Do you like to travel?

I have a friend who, before she got married, divorced and raised six children on her own (yes, if that doesn't show that she's a superwoman, I don't know what does!), yeah, before all that she decided to travel and explore every single one of the fifty states in the US. Back then she was very young, ambitious and could live with very little. She still can live with very little and is still young and pretty, but this experience that she received has no price value on it...

Many moons ago I was young and ambitious too. Before I came to the States, I had a desire or more of a fantasy to visit every state in the US too. I do like traveling and I'm fascinated by both geography and learning about new cultures. But my dream kind of stayed in the stage of a dream. In fact, I've never even been to NY. Well, if you don't count those five times when I spent countless minutes passing the floor at JFK after or before the exhausting 10-hour trip to or from Mother Russia. Lame, I know...

In reality, fast forward 8.5 years, and I'm only about 15% into my goal. We did visit some amazing places in those years like the trip to Arizona (something we definitely want to repeat):

Last year we went to one of the "it" places for foreign tourists:

Guess where I was? :)

But there are still so many destinations I want to see. I'd love to travel around the world, that's a given. But money is definitely tight... Maybe, Vegas is my next destination... Right.

So if money was not an issue (let's just imagine for a second that you were a lost child of the Hilton family...), where in the whole world would you go? And if money is an issue (because you did not find a $10 million dollar treasure in your back yard), where in the States would you travel and why? Or where would you recommend to go? Of course, I mean those of you who live in Northern America. Because those of you who are located in sunny Spain, I know where you live, and I'm already envious...:)

  2. oh I would love to travel too! We live in Virginia, and I would love to travel across country and see all the national parks. I hope that we can travel to England, Scotland and Ireland someday. My husband wants to go to Japan too.. But for now, I need to pay thousands in medical bills, so I am planning a short trip to the Great Smoky Mountains this summer.

  3. If money was not an issue, I would love to take a trip and see Italy, Ireland and Russia- (I know that is all over the map!) On a more realistic scale, I would love to be able to save enough in the next few years to take the kids to Disney World in Florida. Right now our oldest is 6 and our youngest in 2- I would like to go at a time when they are both still young enough to enjoy it but old enough to remember it when they are older, since it will probably be a one-time trip for our family. :)

    1. Oh, Italy is definitely on my bucket list! One of my friends just recently came back from her trip to Italy, and her pictures are amazing!

We went to Disney world for our honeymoon (wasn't our first choice but was free thanks to a family reunion). It's a fun place for both kids and grown-ups, that's for sure!

  4. I too, would like to travel to every one of the 50 states. I have a friend who has only one to go--Hawaii. Also, my husband has visited every continent except Antarctica. He always says that you appreciate home so much more when you visit other places. I agree.

  5. I found you from Terri Cheney's blog! I have done some traveling - we have been to Vegas several times. But the older I get the more I'd like to just stay home. :)

Honestly though, I'd really like to take a week every year to the beach and just do whatever I want with no big agenda. Since I live in Oklahoma, a beach isn't exactly close and money is tight so I just go there in my mind. :)

    1. Welcome, Karla! Thanks for stopping by :) I would LOVE to go to the beach once a year. But the closest beaches for us are like 10 hours away :) Plus, my husband is red-haired and very fair-skinned, so beach is not exactly his idea of relaxing :)

  6. I love, love, love Las Vegas. And I have been there many times. But I guess if money was no object I would buy a tiny RV and just drive the entire country and maybe make a pitstop in Canada. Ahhhhh, what a wonderful dream!

  7. I love to travel too. Would love to go to Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand (some places I have already been, but would love to return). In the states, I would love to go back East. But anywhere new can be fun.

  9. I have several dream trips: Ireland, English countryside, drive along the coastline of the U.S., Alaska. My heart rests in St. Augustine Florida for the most part. I love walking down the streets of Old City and hearing multiple languages spoken all at once! I'd love to drive the whole Blue Ridge Parkway and all through Smokey Mountains as we did when I was a child, long to visit Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. My husband doesn't care for heights so we don't 'do' mountains. I really enjoyed my visit to Washington state in the Seattle/Silverdale area and seeing the Pacific Ocean was pretty awesome. I'd like to do that again some day and go back through the Olympic National Forest (a rain forest yet!)...

  10. If money is no object, I would love to visit Italy and maybe the Castle in England where Downton Abbey is filmed. On the home front I am thinking the Appalachian Trail states from Georgia to Maine. What a fun little journey my mind took with this one:) Hawaii was wonderful and we would love to go back.

  12. Hi Lena! I've been MIA for awhile, trying to get back into the swing of the blog world. This is quite a topic for me. As a child I devoured maps and read about places all over the world. At 35, it still has yet to really happen. Being a poor college kid, then poor graduate, then got married and became a SAHM... travel has taken a back burner. We have been able to do a lot of US travel though, lots of road trips with the kids. At 35 years old I realized I've been to 35 states... my next goal is 50 states by age 50! Fingers crossed, I have 15 years! World travel? Sigh. I yearn so much to see with my own eye, breath in the air, and take in worldy places... I don't know when it will happen. I did also get my passport for the first time at 35 (it was a big birthday to me I guess!)... but no plans to use it yet. I really want to spend months exploring England, Scotland, and Ireland the most! Would love to travel if money was no option, had amazing childcare, and my husband had endless days off work :)

  13. Definitely! I love to travel around different beautiful attractions including, natural, historical and cultural attractions. During holidays I always prefer to go for trips or tours and have visited many attractions of the United States. I used to visit Colorado River, Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam last summer and had lots of fun there. This summer vacation I am going to enjoy amazing manhattan tours.
